All companies striving to meet the Global Goals for Sustainable Development need to incorporate social aspects in their business models. This was something everyone agreed on at the end of the half-day workshop “Innovationskraft – social hållbarhet i företagande” (Harnessing innovation – social sustainability in enterprise). During the workshop, companies, institutes and financiers shared expertise in social innovation with the participants, who attended both digitally and physically.

Positive examples were presented, for instance from the Navet Science Center in Borås, which actively works to realise the goals of Agenda 2030 by highlighting issues raised by children and young people and supporting youth enterprise. The social enterprise Skryta and Ergon/Gothenburg City Mission are collaborating to promote sustainability from two aspects by offering vocational training at an individual pace and producing beautiful lampshades from recycled materials. Johanneberg Science Park and Borås Science presented external environment analysis from the innovation system together with Viable Cities and Vinnova, and Coompanion talked about impact measurement.

The seminar was organised as part of KRAFT – Kraftfullt ekosystem för sociala företag (A powerful ecosystem for social enterprises), a project run by Coompanion and Region Västra Götaland and funded by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. Co-organisers were Science Park Borås and Johanneberg Science Park. About half of the participants attended in person at the newly opened innovation arena A Working Lab, while the other half attended the seminar digitally.

The seminar ended with a panel discussion on how social enterprise and the innovation system can cooperate in systematic and structured ways to promote social innovation in Region Västra Götaland.
