The purpose of the test bed is to create a cross-functional, open and innovative demonstration arena. Through digitalisation and automation, focus will be on increasing the efficiency of daily operations, enhancing the recreational value and reducing environmental impact.

The first test area is The Garden Society of Gothenburg, where robotic lawnmowers are being installed in a public space and new sensor technology is being tested, in the hopes of gaining new insights into the park’s values, its maintenance and how to interact with visitors in a smart way. Several different projects will be implemented and prototypes and small-scale solutions will be tested and demonstrated in this test bed.

The initial work on developing the test bed is funded by Vinnova within the Challenge-driven innovation (UDI) program and is led by Johanneberg Science Park.

The project will identify solutions for a complete electrification of handheld machines in short term and create a roadmap for electric or other fossil-free operation of all relevant machines and vehicles. Solutions and potential regarding digitalization, satellite observation and sensor technology will be visualized, and in-depth knowledge for measuring and validation of qualitative benefits will be created, as well as a broad consortium of stakeholders for cooperation within the area.

Sustainable Smart Parks is a collaboration between several of Gothenburg City's companies and administrations: Parks & Nature Administration, Sports & Societies Administration, Environment Administration, Bostads AB Poseidon, LokalförvaltningenGöteborgs Stads Leasing AB, Johanneberg Science Park and Husqvarna AB
