Visit by Urban Innovation Actions
This week the Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) visits Johanneberg Science Park. The UIA finances the Fossil-free Energy Districts project, FED - a collaboration project that develops a unique local marketplace for electricity, district heating and cooling at Chalmers Campus in Johanneberg.
The UIA representatives got the opportunity to meet the project team and all partners. They also got to exchange knowledge and experiences to better understand the partnership's dynamics and progresses as well as to discuss specific issues and challenges.
A campus tour was arranged to show the buildings and installations included in FED.
Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) is an Initiative of the European Union that provides urban areas throughout Europe with resources to test new and unproven solutions to address urban challenges. Based on article 8 of ERDF, the Initiative has a total ERDF budget of EUR 372 million for 2014-2020.
During 2017−2019 the FED testbed will be situated on Chalmers Campus Johanneberg. The Chalmers Campus area is outside the energy distribution concession, which will provide the opportunity for testing and evaluating a local energy market. The digital market place will maximise the use of low quality energy to replace primary energy. One building’s energy requirements will be offset against the surplus in another.
