Vaasa - Welcome to Gothenburg!
A delegation from Vaasa is visiting Gothenburg today. The purpose is to exchange knowledge within the EU project IRIS. The focus of the visit is the Riksbyggens Viva concept and the development of the neighborhood and the unique, integrated energy solutions as well as the residents' opportunities for influence and involvement.
The program also includes visits to Gothenburg Energy and HSB Living Lab. Participating today are: Riksbyggen, HSB, Business Region Gothenburg and Gothenburg City.
Vaasa is one of four follow-up cities in IRIS. Within IRIS, new solutions for urban development within energy, mobility, digitization and citizen engagement are being tested and demonstrated.
IRIS is a so-called Lighthouse project, funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 program. The Lighthouse cities are Utrecht (Netherlands), Gothenburg (Sweden) and Nice Côte d'Azur (France). This is where solutions are developed, tested and demonstrated and then packaged into replicable formats for other cities. Four Follower cities will test, challenge and replicate the project's solutions for increased dissemination across Europe: Vaasa (Finland) Alexandroupolis (Greece) Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain) and Focsani (Romania).
Vaasa's special mission and skills in IRIS is to coordinate and develop replication within the project, so that the solutions that are developed and tested can be packaged and copied and then implemented in other cities. Replication is a key focus within EU-funded projects today.
