Akademiska Hus to build innovation arena

JSP2 (Johanneberg Science Park Stage 2) will be used as an office building and an innovation arena, both during the construction process and on into the future. Several parties will be running innovation projects here and these include using the building as a test and demonstration arena. Akademiska Hus has ambitious goals for the ecological footprint, technology and functionality of the building.

Three challenges
On the basis of the Company's innovation strategy, three innovation challenges have been identified for JSP2: “flexible and digital learning environments and workplaces”, “value-adding meeting places” and “a climate-friendly and resource-efficient building with a low CO2 footprint”. Several specific innovation projects based on these challenges have been started or are in the development phase.

More than just a building
“JSP2 is far more than just a building for us. We’re using the Akademiska Hus Innovation Strategy for the first time in this project and we’re expecting to learn a lot, from both the innovation process and projects, which we’ll then be able to utilise in the company’s future projects,” says Birgitta van Dalen Market Area Director, Akademiska Hus.

“The investment decision is good news for the ongoing development of Johanneberg Science Park. It will be a state-of-the-art building with a host of exciting development projects,” says Mats Bergh CEO of Johanneberg Science Park.

Cross-disciplinary collaboration
The new JSP2 building will be located on what is now the car park on Sven Hultins Plats between Johanneberg Science Park’s new buildings (Phase 1) and Chalmers Väg och Vatten II building. JSP2 is an office building for businesses operating in the Johanneberg Science Park focus area – urban development. It is hoped that JSP2 will become a value-creating collaborative environment where the private sector, academia and the public sector interact. Along with Phase One and the other buildings, this will make Johanneberg Science Park a more distinct gateway to the Chalmers campus from the south.

“The JSP2 project is being implemented in close cooperation with both Johanneberg Science Park and Chalmers. We are already renting out the space and agreements have been signed with tenants including RISE – The Swedish Research Institute, formerly the Technical Research Institute of Sweden,” says Birgitta van Dalen, Market Area Director of Akademiska Hus.

“RISE is a perfect fit for our cross-disciplinary and innovative collaborative environment,” comments Mats Bergh, CEO of Johanneberg Science Park.
