HSB Living Lab is now looking for tenants

29 February 2016

HSB was one of the first partners of Johanneberg Science Park. Along with co-owners and partners, we, at Johanneberg Science Park, develop projects that give something extra than what can fit within the traditional business activities. HSB Living Lab is a representative example.

In 2011 Johanneberg Science Park and Chalmers, participated at a kick-off in Delft for an EU project aimed at creating an infrastructure of Living Labs where new sustainable technologies around Europe could be tested. During this kick-off the idea of a living lab was born. It was decided to be situated in Chalmers campus and HSB expressed its interest to get involved in the project. The concept started developing gradually over the years so that today 12 partners with varied expertise are involved in this cooperation.

“This project is an amazing journey and it is so exciting that now it is taking shape and becomes a reality. A partnership of combined expertise will reinforce the involved partners, Chalmers research and provide students with a brand new arena for collaboration” says Irene Svensson, International Relations advisor at Johanneberg Science Park.

“HSB Living Lab is a good example of exactly what we must provide, to network actors while creating the conditions for the emergence of joint development projects with demonstration and testing facilities. In addition, this endeavor, strengthens our ambition to put the area on the map and show the potential for cooperation across borders that creates innovation for sustainable growth” says Maria Ådahl, Director of Open Arena - Urban Development at Johanneberg Science Park.

The building of 29 apartments at Chalmers campus along with the recruitment campaign for tenants has already started. The eligibility criteria for being a tenant at the HSB Living Lab are fairly simple. You must be a student either at Chalmers University of Technology or at the University of Gothenburg and be registered as a member at Boplats Göteborg. But above all, it is required that you really want to live in a living lab!
You can read more about the campaign at HSB’s press release.

HSB Living Lab is the beginning of future housing. The idea of a living lab for research on sustainable living environment was born in 2010 and is now becoming a reality in 2016. Here at Chalmers, students and researchers live and work in order to test innovations and technical solutions for the next generation of housing. In 29 apartments equipped with monitoring stations and sensors will up to 40 people live in an evolving building where the walls, facades and interiors develop as the research progresses. HSB Living Lab is a collaboration project between industry and academia. A unique and open arena that aims to create future sustainable living environments. The main partners are Chalmers University of Technology, HSB and Johanneberg Science Park. Collaboration partners are Tengbom, Peab, Akademiska Hus, Tieto, Electrolux, Bengt Dahlgren, Göteborg Energi, Elfa, Vedum. #HSBLivingLab
